While the PC community eagerly awaits the launch of Crysis 2 - and the multiplayer demo, which should arrive before the full game's release on March 22 - EA and Crytek have announced the minimum system requirements so that gamers can prepare themselves.

The minimum requirements are:

  • Internet connection to play the game, to install and get online
  • OS: XP / Vista / Windows 7
  • CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo 2 GHz, AMD Athlon 64 X2 2 GHz or higher
  • GPU : Nvidia 8800 GT 512 MB RAM, ATI Radeon HD 3850 512 MB of RAM or better
  • 2 GB RAM
  • Hard Drive: 9 GB
  • DVD ROM: 8x
  • Audio: DirectX 9.0c compatible
  • Keyboard, Mouse or Microsoft Xbox 360 Controller for Windows

Given how much of a resource-hog the original Crysis was - and still is - when the settings were turned up, we wouldn't be surprised if the recommended requirements for Crysis 2 were quite a bit higher. We're guessing that EA didn't want to release them yet so as not to panic unsuspecting gamers.

Interestingly, these are almost exactly the same as the recommended requirements for Crysis, which asked for a 2.2GHz Core 2 Duo, 2GB RAM and an NVIDIA 8800 GTS 640MB. It also means that anyone with a fairly high-spec PC from the last 3 years - or even a mid-range PC from the last year or two - should be able to get into the game.

Of course, these are just the minimum requirements and knowing Crytek, you'll probably need something a lot more powerful if you want to see the game at its best. In fact, we'd almost be disappointed if it couldn't make an ultra-high-end six-core, dual-GPU gaming-rig beg for mercy.

So how does your system stack up? Are you ready for Crysis 2, or will you be pulling out the credit card to finally splurge on that new graphics card?

+1 Been waiting for this one for a while.
Could be worse TBH. How well it will run on those specs is another question.
Q6600, check. 4GB RAM, check. 8800GTX, check.

Apparently, my aging and venerable gaming rig can play Crysis 2 ;)

of course, whether it ever will or not is another matter entirely…
