Ubisoft has announced that Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Siege will be released on 13th October in both Europe and the North America. This tactical first person shooter has already been in a closed alpha test on PC this year and was officially announced at E3 a year ago.

Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Siege is said to put tactics and "masterful destruction" at the centre of the game experience. In the game you will be one of a team of counter-terrorist Rainbow operators and enjoy tense, thrilling combat scenarios where you will have had to smartly plan and then improvise winning tactics.

There is a range of 20 specialised operators available to the player to choose. Each operator has unique abilities in breaching and defending aspects of the game. Examples of operators include; Sledge – a sledge hammer wielding breaching specialist, Smoke – provides detonatable chemical gas charges, and Thermite – who carries thermite breach charges which can burn though the most resilient barriers.

Destruction is key to this game. Walls can be shattered, floors and ceilings can be breached – you can choose the best tactic to get the upper hand over your opponents. Ubisoft says that the destruction on show is 'procedural' so should be different every time, just like how it's hard to predict the destruction such sieges might cause in the real world.

In game play modes you will choose from:

  • Five versus Five.
  • Attack versus Defend.
  • Infiltrate versus Fortify.

Within every siege situation you will be faced with combat arenas containing tight spaces and up-close and personal firefights. Last month Ubisoft gave us a preview of 'The British Unit' in airline hijack/siege action. I've embedded that video below for your convenience.

Rainbow Six Siege will be available on Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC from 13th October, 2015. In other Ubisoft games news this week we saw the first trailers for Assassin's Creed Syndicate and heard confirmation that Tom Clancy's The Division has been delayed again, this time to the first calendar quarter of 2016.

I've been waiting for this for a while but have really lost my stomach for Ubisoft during the waiting…. (WatchDogs, The Crew and AssCreed to name a few reasons)

Guess I'll have to see how I feel about them come October.
This game actually looks really good - but it's always hard to tell with Ubisoft games. If it's good, I might get it after release (if I'm done with Witcher 3 at that point.. :P )
If they just did a Steam release I could stomach that, but Uplay means I never buy their games ever again- in any platform.
