Ghost Games, the developers behind the upcoming Need for Speed reboot, are delaying the launch of the game on PC until next Spring. In a blog post the developers said the extra time was necessary to work on unlocking the frame rate and boosting visuals for PC gamers. Meanwhile Xbox One and PS4 console gamers will get the new Need for Speed game release, as previously announced, on 3rd November in the US and 5th November worldwide.

Unlocked, improved visuals

Putting out feelers in the PC gaming community via social media, Ghost Games has determined that "an unlocked frame rate in Need for Speed is a massive priority for you, and we fully agree". This is the main reason behind the delay. Furthermore efforts will be made to "increase the visuals that we can deliver on PC," between now and the proposed Spring launch date.

Internet connection required

Whatever it may have learned from the community, Ghost Games appears to be continuing to develop Need for Speed as "a connected game" – yes it will require an internet connection to play. Thanks to being constantly online Ghost says that "we can deliver an ongoing experience that is constantly changing and evolving". The company is putting server stability and the capability of its dedicated server infrastructure under the spotlight shortly to "ensure that your experience is not compromised".

PC players will get all the content updates that console gamers receive, in the four or five months between the November launch and next Spring, from day one. The delay should also mean a relatively bug-less game launch for PC owners.

If that happens I'll eat my hat. ;)
Delay to unlock the FPS, lol
Delayed by 6 months to remove the 30fps lock? Sounds like EA.

No mention of reason being due to wanting to add proper wheel support…….
Surely its better that there are actually removing it this time? In the past they have released NFS games to PC with the FPS still locked to 30!!!!

There was a really funny vid of a guy that had messed with the config to up the framerate to 60fps but it only had the effect of making the game run at double speed and all you can hear on the accompanying commentary is him saying “SPPPEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEED” think it was by The Cynical Brit.
When games get release with bugs people complain when games get delayed to fix bugs people complain.. You can't win
