Mafia 2 has finally been unveiled at Leipzig. We were sure that the queue to access to the 2K booth, adorned with posters of the anticipated sequel, would be the first hands-on playtest of the title - sadly it wasn't - but it was a showing of the World's first trailer.

Mafia 2 will feature a deep mobster-driven narrative packed with both behind-the-wheel and on-foot action, with the game once again being developed by Illusion Softworks, developers of the original Mafia title, for next generation consoles and Games for Windows.

Like the original Mafia title, Mafia 2 is set in the mob underworld of a fictitious late 1940's-early 1950's scenario. The trailer, which was conveniently in German, began with four gangsters chatting in a cafe (Reservoir Dog's style) and showcased some realistic facial animations, before the gangsters set off on a high speed chase armed with machine guns, which eventually led to the climax of the promo, where the gangsters opened the boot of their car - to find what we can only assume was a dead body.

This early promo bodes well for the series, which received a mix response amongst PC gamers when the first title was released.
