Conclusions and anger therapy sessions.
Right then, time to make that judgement call and decide if The Incredible Hulk: Ultimate Destruction is worth your cash or not. Let’s just re-cap what we’ve got here then. Free-roaming gameplay, loads of interactivity with the environment, loads of moves, power ups and unlockable stuff. Plenty of smash and destroy action and easy to pick up but difficult to master gameplay. Graphically looking very nice with sounds similarly tasty too. Hmm, all positive stuff so far.
On the downside, the button combos for the more powerful moves are fiendishly tricky to get right in the heat of the battle and the camera sometimes works against you when you’re trying to attack and stay alive at the same time. The free roaming gameplay lets Hulk show his hand too early too, leaving nothing new to see later on in the game.
So what does that give us? Well, to be honest, the camera issue only rears it’s head every now and then and most of the time it isn’t a problem. I have to say that I love the free roaming and coupling that with Hulk’s unstoppable motion feature means that legging it around the city, smashing up a few busses and then running up a skyscraper has been the most fun I’ve had in ages. And that’s what it’s all about really, fun.
Yep, The Incredible Hulk: Ultimate Destruction is fun, loads of fun to play and that’s what makes you want to play a game. It’s enjoyable whether you’re just being a git and wiping out passers-by or whether you’re playing seriously and working your way through the missions. The difficulty balance is just right too, with bosses presenting that much of a challenge that it’ll take you a few goes to win. Sure, the controls can be a tad frustrating when you keep unsuccessfully trying to make that killer move, but the Hulk keeps on punching the hell out of anything on the screen anyway, so that’s alright.
What The Incredible Hulk: Ultimate Destruction lacks in depth it makes up for in playability and fun by the bucket load and that’s what makes it worth a go.
