Quantum Break, a big budget adventure gaming production, was previously touted as an Xbox One exclusive but Microsoft has now revealed it will be simultaneously released for Windows 10 PCs. Those who pre-order Quantum Break for Xbox One will get a free copy for their PC but you'll also be able to get it on its own from the Windows Store. However to run the game there are some pretty hefty recommended PC specifications which include flagship graphics cards like the GTX 980Ti or AMD R9 Fury X - plus the requirement for DirectX 12, Windows 10.

Back when the Xbox One was launched Quantum Break was touted as a platform exclusive. Now Microsoft has announced that the game will be also landing on PCs when it launches on 5th April. In a news release on Xbox Wire it is explained how you can buy the upcoming game and get some bonuses:

"Xbox wants to empower gamers to play the games they want with the people they want on the devices they want, so Microsoft Studios and Remedy Entertainment will launch Quantum Break on Windows 10 simultaneously with the Xbox One version on April 5, 2016." says the release. "Anyone who pre-orders the Xbox One digital version of Quantum Break through the Xbox Store, purchases an Xbox One digital token at participating retailers, or pre-orders an Xbox One Special Edition Quantum Break bundle, will receive the Windows 10 version of the game downloadable at the Windows Store via redemption code."

So it sounds like if you are interested in playing Quantum Break on your PC you might as well buy the Xbox One release... There's more - every copy of Quantum Break will come with a full-game download for Alan Wake for Xbox 360, plus its two add-on packs, The Signal and The Writer, playable on Xbox One via Backward Compatibility. Adding to the permutations of game combinations pre-order customers from participating retailers or through the Xbox Store will also receive a full-game download of Alan Wake's American Nightmare for Xbox 360.

Quantum Break supports shared saves between the Xbox One and Windows 10 versions, however there is no cross-play functionality - simply because it is a single player action adventure. The minimum and recommended PC specs are reproduced below.

Really ? I thought that DX12 would take some of the pressure off the CPU, and share video resources across the systrem thereby allowing either higher performance or being able to play on older kit.

I think instead of taking pressure off the CPU some developers are using the extra CPU power available to do more stuff that wouldn't have performed as well if they were doing it on DX11.

Shame its not a vulkan game tbh.
Those recommended specs look very steep.. Hopefully there'll be a rush of download codes on eBay from people who have bought the XB1 version but don't have a beefy gaming PC.

It should increase the load on CPU since you can now use threads more effectively. That said, if it runs on XB1, it shouldn't require anything too major on the CPU front.

I think instead of taking pressure off the CPU some developers are using the extra CPU power available to not bother doing any optimisation

Fixed that for you :D ;)

Edit to add: Actually the minimum requirements seem fairly sane. How old is the FX6300 now? And the 260X is no spring chicken and very cheap by modern graphics card standards.

I can't see Microsoft making a Vulkan game any time soon, though from some of the accusations that DX12 is just a crude cut & paste of Mantle with the error codes ignored you would wonder if a DX12 to Vulkan API conversion would make an easier job for Wine game emulation in future. That would be nice.
